Dealing with Wallpaper Glue Residue and Getting it Off Your Walls
Wallpaper glue residue can be a nagging, unwanted pest after removing wallpaper. The paste residue left behind can create a huge mess, and the cleanup can take some effort. Fortunately, there are several easy, inexpensive ways to clean up wallpaper glue residue. In no time at all, your walls will be clean and shiny again.
The first step in removing wallpaper glue residue is to cover the glue residue in a solution made of Tri-Sodium Phosphate and warm water. Alternatively, you could choose to get a hand spray-bottle to spray a mixture of warm water and baking soda on to the wall. This is a common home remedy for removing wallpaper glue residue.
After the solution has time to sit on the wall and glue residue, you can begin to try to wipe it off. For tougher pastes, you have to let the solution sit longer for it to work. You may need to let the solution sit on the wall for a few hours or more. However, some wallpaper glue residue is so tough that this solution won’t even work against it.
When you experience difficulty with the warm water and Tri-Sodium Phosphate solution, there is another way to get rid of the pesky wallpaper glue residue. You can skim over the wall and coat is with drywall mud and caulking that can be painted. You fill the holes and cracks in the glue with these substances, and then you use a sponge sander to sand down the repairs of the wall.
After these repairs are full, sand them again. You can continue to fill and sand the wall until it’s smooth and free of wallpaper glue residue. You could also rent a hot steam machine that can spray the walls with hot steaming water that will help the wallpaper glue residue to peel off. These steam machines can burn the skin and discolor the wall, so be careful.
Finally, you could also consider using a hand-made sander to rip through the wallpaper and allow the hot water to seep in behind the glue residue. This will cause the glue residue to slowly begin to fade off of the wall. Wallpaper glue residue can truly be a pain when you’re trying to fix up a room, but with some of these methods, you should effectively be able to remove the wallpaper glue residue.
