Corian IS extremely sensitive to heat, and does not have the elegance of granite or marble. However, it is usually moderately priced. This is a sensible option for the average family.

Granite countertops, by far the most expensive, are also considered the most imposing and elegant. Granite, as a naturally occurring rock form, is of course waterproof and extremely durable, and easily cleaned by non-abrasive cleaners. However, once chipped or broken, granite countertops are notoriously difficult to fix. This kind of countertop is best saved for master bathrooms or elegant dream kitchens, and is not generally considered the most kid-friendly. Its looks, however, cannot be disputed.

Those looking to install plastic laminate, cultured marble, or corian should have little trouble, since these come in a variety of sizes, shapes, and styles.
