Roofing Prices for Various Materials (Asphalt, Corrugated Metal, Slate and Others)

Metal Corrugated Roof: Probably the best bang for you buck possible. Very durable and not nearly as expensive as the other types of roofs mentioned below. The type of metal will determine the expense. Steel costs in the range of $5,000 to $15,000. Aluminum ranges from $13,000 to $25,000. Copper is the most expensive average a range of $25,000 to $40,000.

Wood Shingles: Have a nice natural and rustic appearance but may need to have fire-retardant applied due to the risk of fire. With the look in mind, wood doesn’t last as long as a roofing material and requires on going maintenance. Be prepared to pay $5,000 to $15,000 for a full install. The price may go higher for various treatments to prevent molding, fungus, and fire.

Ceramic Tile Roof Shingles: Gives you a very visual touch to your roof, with many different colors, shapes and design possibilities. It doesn’t have the maintenance or durability issues that wood has but it costs even more to install. Look to spend between $10,000 to $20,000 for a ceramic style of roof. If you customize or order really elaborate tiles, the price can balloon up to even $60,000.

Slate Roof Shingles: Likely the most durable and expensive roofing material. Look to spend in excess of $30,000 up to $75,000.

One thing to consider when getting a roof installed is the pitch of your roof. The steeper the roof (read: harder to walk and move around on) the more it will cost to install a new roof and will likely increase the costs by 10 or 15 percent. Roofing around chimney’s, pipes or other obstacles will also increase the total price of a roof install and you’ll end up on the higher end of the ranges specified above. To get an exact price, your best bet is to go and get quotes from local contractors in your area. Only after a contractor has looked at your roof and taken in all the variables will you be able to know precisely how much it will cost you to install a new one.
